Stewart Laing is a theatre director and designer.  He is the Artistic Director of Untitled Projects and was an Associate Artist with the National Theatre of Scotland from 2018 to 2022.  Stewart won the Tony Award for Best Scenic Design of a Musical for Titanic!

Stewart’s directing work includes Them! (National Theatre of Scotland), Creditors (Lyceum), The Skating Rink (Garsington), The Sewing Group (Royal Court), Titus Andronicus (Dundee Rep), Ophelia (Òran Mór), The Maids (Citizens), La bohème (Scottish Opera), The Breasts of Tiresias, L'heure espagnole (Grange Park), Tosca (Norrlandsoperan), La fanciulla del West, Faust, Dead Man Walking (Malmö Opera).

As Artistic Director of Untitled Projects, his work includes JG Ballard Project (Tramway), blind_sight (Tramway, Contact), Slope (Tramway), An Argument About Sex (Tramway, Traverse), The Salon Project (Traverse, Citizens, Barbican), Paul Bright’s Confessions of a Justified Sinner (Tramway, Summerhall, Dublin Theatre Festival, Edinburgh International Festival), Slope Redux (Citizens, Traverse), The End of Eddy (Unicorn, Edinburgh International Festival, Dublin Theatre Festival, Melbourne International Arts Festival, BAM) and We Are In Time (Scottish Ensemble).

His designs include Pygmalion, Endgame (Old Vic), The Valkyrie and The Rhinegold (ENO), La bohème (Royal Opera, Teatro Real, Lyric Opera Chicago), The Hairy Ape (Old Vic, Park Avenue Armory), Peter Grimes (La Scala), Fidelio (Scottish Opera), Skin Deep (Opera North, Royal Danish Opera), Rumpelstiltskin (BCMG), From Morning to Midnight (ENO), Supervision (Builders Association), Titanic! (Broadway, Tony Award for Best Scenic Design in a Musical).
