Abbie Spallen was awarded the Dublin City Council Bursary for Literature in 2005 and was the recipient of the Tony Doyle Award 2007 for her first feature length screenplay SEVEN DRUNKEN KNIGHTS.

Her play PUMPGIRL played at the Bush Theatre, Traverse and MTC and was awarded the Susan Smith Blackburn Award and Stuart Parker Trust Major Award as well as being nominated for the Irish Times Theatre Award for Best New Play.  It has since been performed across America and, most recently, in Finland.

Abbie's most recent play, STRANDLINE, was nominated for both the Meyer Whitworth and Susan Smith Blackburn Awards.  Both PUMPGIRL and STRANDLINE are published by Faber.

She has completed attachments at the Royal Court and National Theatre.  She has been awarded bursaries by the Arts Counil of Northern Ireland and the Peggy Ramsay Foundation and recently won the Halma Foundation Award for Excellence in the European Arts.
