About us

The Books Department at United Agents is one of the UK’s leading literary agencies. We are a dynamic team made up of literary agents, foreign rights and book-to-film agents, who between us look after many of the world’s best-known and most-loved writers. Our authors work across a broad range of creative fields and represent every genre, from commercial and literary fiction to acclaimed biography and specialist non-fiction, as well as writers and illustrators of books for children and young adults. Each agent has created their own boutique list which they are enormously passionate about.

We look after many authors who have appeared at the top of the Sunday Times and New York Times bestseller lists and our writers have won many of the world’s most prestigious literary prizes, including the Man Booker Prize, the COSTA Novel of the Year, the Women’s Prize for Fiction, the Windham-Campbell Prize, the Baillie Gifford prize for non-fiction, the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Children’s Book Award. We also represent some of the biggest-selling books and debut authors of the past few years.

While we are proud to count a number of influential voices among our long-term clients, at the same time we have a particular passion and reputation for finding and nurturing new talent and helping to shape burgeoning writing careers, selling our clients’ work into markets and languages around the world.

We are always keen to receive new submissions and for more information on how to submit, please see the Submission Guidelines page.
