Jane Willis handles translation rights for children’s and teenage titles in all languages. Currently looking after Jodie Hodges’ clients while she is on maternity leave she is also building a list of children’s authors from young fiction and middle-grade through to teenage and crossover, plus a small list of adult authors specialising particularly in fantasy, sci-fi and crime.
Jane is a founding partner and agent at United Agents LLP. She previously worked at Puffin for 8 years, and prior to that The Economist, Kingfisher, and Michael O’Mara Books.
I have a very broad and eclectic taste. On the children’s side a story has to grab me from the very first page. A random sample of my favourite children’s books include the Harry Potter series by J K Rowling, the Famous Five series by Enid Blyton, CARRIE’S WAR by Nina Bawden, THE WIND SINGER by William Nicholson, and HOW I LIVE NOW by Meg Rosoff. On the adult side I’m mainly focusing on fantasy, sci-fi and crime. I’d also love to find some outstanding author-led non-fiction for children in all genres and am interested to explore writing for readers in their twenties and early thirties.
