Kathryn's first picture book, autobiographical, When They Fight, was published by Oxford University Press. It was beautifully illustrated by Cliff Wright, using soft watercolour, and depicted a family of badgers in conflict and final resolution. She was thrilled when the book was selected as a Notable Book for Social Studies by the USA Libraries Association. This kickstarted Kathryn's real desire to specialise in children’s fiction so she went on to write Here Comes The Crocodile, Little Tiger Press, which was shortlisted for the Sheffield and Nottingham Book Awards. Ruby’s School Walk followed on and was shortlisted for the Boston Globe Best Read Aloud picture book award in the US.

Kathryn has worked with a wide range of great publishers including educational and love the varying scope writing for children provides. Her work has given her the opportunity to hold events in schools, within the prison service, at festivals and travel as far as the US and China to share her experience of the fascinating world of young fiction. It has also allowed her to eat lots of liquorice and popcorn, imagine exciting other worlds and have tons of fun.
