Alice Birch wins 2014 George Devine Award

Alice Birch has been named the co-winner of this year’s prestigious George Devine Award for Most Promising Playwright for her ambitious and subversive play, REVOLT. SHE SAID. REVOLT AGAIN.

The prize was shared with Rory Mullarkey and awarded in a ceremony at the Royal Court this lunchtime.

REVOLT. SHE SAID. REVOLT AGAIN. will be playing as part of the RSC’s Midsummer Mischief season (playing in rep with THE ANT AND THE CICADA by Timberlake Wertenbaker) at The Other Place in Stratford-upon-Avon before two already sold-out performances in the Royal Court’s Upstairs Theatre.

The award was set up in 1966 to honour George Devine, the Royal Court’s first artistic director, with previous winners including Mike Leigh (1973), Richard Bean (2002) and Penelope Skinner (2011).
