GENERATION KILL: UK Premiere

GENERATION KILL, a seven-part HBO miniseries based on the
award-winning book by Evan Wright and Exec-Produced by David Simon (THE
WIRE) premieres in the UK on Sunday 25th January on FX. Lead director Susanna White won critical acclaim when the series was broadcast in the USA last year.

The story follows the Marines of First Recon Batallion through the
first forty days of the Iraq war, at the tip spear of the American
invasion. They contend with equipment shortages, incompetent commanding
officers, ever-evolving Rules of Engagement and an unclear strategy.

"“Very good television, an astounding portrait of modern warfare,
and of an extreme job … It amuses and shocks, confuses and thrills.” The Guardian

“Given David Simon’s standing after The Wire, the temptation would
be to let him take all the credit for Generation Kill’s authenticity
and realism, so it might be worth pointing out that it is also the work
of a British independent, Company Pictures, and that this first
instalment was directed by Susanna White, who did Bleak House. Some
coalitions get it right.” The Independent

"“It’s a masterpiece … I am genuinely in awe of any woman who would
leave her family in London to go and hang with a big bunch of men for
God knows how long, in Africa (where the show was shot), immersing
herself in the narrative of war, and pull it all off so brilliantly and
apparently effortlessly that instead of having everybody jumping up and
down and shouting "omigod, this is a great show directed by a woman …",
hardly anybody even seems to have noticed.  Anyway, sorry to jump up
and down shouting "Look everybody – it’s a great big male ensemble cast
being told what to do by a girl!", but I’m loving Susanna’s work. And
obviously I’ll be loving it even more when she’s given the bloody great
big mega-budget movie she so clearly deserves." Kathryn Flett, The Observer
