Congratulations to Beatrice Colin and Adam Foulds

Congratulations to Beatrice Colin for being chosen for the Richard and Judy Book Club 2009 with her novel The Luminous Life of Lilly Aphrodite and Adam Foulds for winning the Best Poetry Category at the Costa Book Awards 2008 with his poem entitled The Broken Word.

Beatrice Colin’s debut novel The Luminous Life of Lilly Aphrodite
is a page-turning literary historical novel, set in Berlin from 1900 to
1940, about an orphan girl and her rise from poverty and anonymity to
film stardom, all set against the glitteringly seductive rise and the
devastating fall of Berlin, the background to WWI, the debauchery of
the Weimar era, the run-up to WWII, and the innovations in art and
industry that accompanied it all.

Adam Fould’s The Broken Word is a haunting epic
poem about the Mao Mao uprising in Kenya, as seen through the eyes of
Tom, a young man who returns to his family’s farm in Kenya during the
school holidays as the uprising begins.
