January 2009 Television Highlights

Each January, broadcasters unveil their new schedules, and 2009 is no
exception, with a wealth of brand new programming hitting our screens
this week, featuring many United Agents clients.

This Friday, 9th January, at 10pm, Channel 4 launches a new comedy series, ‘Plus One’ (pictured) a sit-com about love and revenge.  The show stars Daniel Mays as Rob Black, a man whose ex-girlfriend (played by Miranda Raison) is marrying Duncan James, lead singer with boyband Blue.

The series, written and created by Tim Allsop & Stewart Williams, co-stars Ingrid Oliver and Nigel Harman as series regulars, and also features appearances from UA clients Sophie Winkleman, Ben Walker, Lorna Watson, Daniel Taylor, Marcus Garvey, Jordan Long, Tom Verrall, Tallulah Sheffield and Romilly Turner.

This week, BBC1 launches the drama of ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’
Showing on consecutive nights at 7pm, this new adaptation depicts Anne
Frank as a teenager on the precipice of sexual awakening, and features Geoff Bretton as Peter Van Daan, the focus of Anne’s affections. 

Hitting our screens this week is another series of BBC1’s ‘Hustle’.  Joining the team is a brand new female lead character, played by Kelly Adams, directed in several episodes by James Strong.  The show starts on Thursday 8th January at 9pm.

Another highlight is ITV1’s new primetime fantasy drama ‘Demons‘ which stars Christian Cooke as
 Luke Rutherford - a normal teenage boy whose life is thrown upside
down when he discovers he is the last Van Helsing: the scion of a
dynasty of warriors engaged in a battle between Half-Lives and humans.
The show, which also features Ben Walker transmits on on Saturdays at 7.45pm on ITV1.

Just launched is a new series of the award winning Sunday Night Project on Channel 4, presented by Justin Lee Collins and Alan Carr. Joining Justin and Alan this week as a guest host is BAFTA winning Gavin & Stacey star James Corden, and is on Sunday 11th at 10pm.
