Blythe's THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE at The Royal Court

Congratulations to Alecky Blythe whose brand new play, THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE, is a smash hit success at the Royal Court Theatre.

As with Alecky’s previous plays – COME OUT ELI (Arcola Theatre
2003), STRAWBERRY FIELDS (Pentabus 2004) and CRUISING (Bush Theatre
2006) – THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE is painstakingly crafted from real
conversations. What’s remarkable is that Alecky recorded these
conversations over several years in a brothel somewhere on the south
coast of England.

The result is this play which is humane, humourous and surprising.

It’s winning rave reviews so do try and catch it at the Royal Court before the 11th October.

“THE GIRLFRIEND EXPERIENCE consists of real-life conversations of
working prostitutes and is by turns funny, touching and absolutely
filthy” – Charles Spencer, Daily Telegraph

“…Alecky Blythe’s hilarious, eye-opening and panty-dropping documentary” – Nicholas de Jongh, The Evening Standard

“Blythe has crafted a tender 90 minutes from her tapes, giving the
narrative moments of menace and humour” – Alice Jones, The Independent.

“Any lingering notion that prostitution is a glamorous profession
will be laid to rest by this gritty, remorselessly honest piece of
verbatim theatre…” – Michael Billington, The Guardian.
