SPUR OF THE MOMENT opens at the Royal Court

Anya Reiss' debut play, SPUR OF THE MOMENT, has opened at the Royal Court Theatre.  A former member of the Court's Young Writer's Programme and Supergroup, she wrote the play when she was just 17, making her the youngest person to have their work staged in a London theatre.

The play focuses on the unsettling relationship between a High School Musical-obsessed pre-adolescent and the 21 year-old lodger in her house, all the while ignored by her warring mother and father (the latter played by Kevin Doyle).

The production is directed by the Court's Deputy Artistic Director, Jeremy Herrin, and runs at the Upstairs Theatre until 21st August.

"My jaw drops.  This is the most accomplished debut from a young playwright I've ever had the pleasure to see".  Reiss writes with an "emotional fluency, wit and insight" (Telegraph).

"Sharply observed... Reiss excels at showing the way our actions betray our thoughts... a distinctive, delightful debut" (Times).

"A disarming quality of utter authenticity" (Independent).

"It has a disquieting ring of truth... Reiss combines sardonic observation with confessional honesty"

"Disturbingly well acted" and Doyle "bickers believably" in his relationship with his wife. (Guardian).

"A seriously impressive debut... Reiss is not a one-hit wonder but a real writer" (Variety).
