EARTHQUAKES IN LONDON at the National

EARTHQUAKES IN LONDON, directed by Rupert Goold, is on at the National Theatre until 22 September 2010.

An all-pervasive fear of the future and a guilty pleasure in the
excesses of the present drive Mike Bartlett’s epic rollercoaster of a
play from 1968 to 2525 and back again. Burlesque
strip shows, bad dreams, social breakdown, population explosion,
worldwide paranoia. A fast and furious metropolitan crash of people,
scenes and decades, as three sisters attempt to navigate their
dislocated lives and loves, while their dysfunctional father, a
brilliant scientist, predicts global catastrophe.

Daily Telegraph (****)

"Goold’s marvellously well-acted and spectacular production is blessed with
terrific visual coups, stirring rock music and a hurtling narrative pace ..."

Guardian  (****)

"Rupert Goold has come up with a gorgeously carnivalesque production that is more than a match for Enron."

Evening Standard (****)

"Rupert Goold's production positively drips with bravura."

Independent (****)

"Goold's production is exhilarating ...The surrounding walls flow
with images of city streets, and Goold overlaps scenes quite
brilliantly, capturing the hectic speed of modern life and of
imaginative leaps."
