Galaxy National Book Awards

Chris Mullin and Nigel Slater are among the contenders for the inaugural Galaxy National Book Awards.

Mullin will compete alongside the Duchess of Devonshire and Tony Blair for the Tesco Biography of the year for his second volume of diaries, Decline and Fall (Profile, August 2010).

Nigel Slater’s Tender II (Fourth Estate, Sept 2010) will be up against Jamie Oliver and Nigella Lawson for the Tesco Food & Drink Book of the Year.

Amanda Ross, managing director of Cactus TV, commented:
"It's great to see such a wide range of quality books on the shortlist. They seem to represent what the public are reading now and in the lead up to Christmas. These nominations have ensured the Galaxy National Book Awards will be rewarding the cream of top British publishing."

The winners of the eight categories will be awarded on 10th November. The ceremony will be broadcast on More4 on 13th November, followed by five further tie-in shows in the run-up to Christmas.
