Guy Deutscher Longlisted for Royal Society Winton Prize

Through the Language Glass (Random House, 2010, £20.00) by Guy Deutscher has been longlisted for the Royal Society Winton Prize for Science Books.

On an odyssey that takes us from Homer to Darwin, from scientists to savages, from the corridors of Yale to the rivers of the Amazon, from how to name the rainbow to why Russian water – a ‘she’ – become a ‘he’ once you have dipped a tea bag into her, this book explores some of the most fascinating and controversial questions about language, culture and the human mind.

The full longlist and list of judges can be seen here. The shortlist will be announced on 27 September 2011 and the winner will be announced on 17 November 2011.
