RICHARD II opens to rave reviews at The Donmar

Critics have been impressed with Richard II at the Donmar Warehouse, which is Michael Grandage's final production as the theatre's artistic director.  Eddie Redmayne plays the title role, with support from Stefano Braschi, Daniel Easton and Ashley Zhangazha, with Adam Cork composing the music and designing the sound.

"Eddie Redmayne confirms his status as one of the most exciting young actors in Britain today with his often mesmerising performance as Richard II. He is by turn grandiose, camp, maudlin and self-dramatising, and sometimes all of these things at once.” The Telegraph

“Redmayne’s Richard is all eloquent, self-dramatising kingliness, yet beneath it lies the trapped, vacillating self-doubt of a man who knows that the role he was born to is beyond him. Redmayne unpeels this pain, desperate self-delusion and vanity with great delicacy... (The Production) is a fitting final flourish to Grandage’s Donmar years.” The Times

“The production looks and sounds marvellous...Adam Cork's sound design echoes with the distant sound of choral music” The Guardian

"What a terrific way for Grandage to end 10 years of superlative stewardship at the Donmar." The Independent
