DUBLIN CAROL opens at Trafalgar Studios

DUBLIN CAROL by Conor McPherson has opened at the Trafalgar Studios as part of the Donmar’s West End season, in a revival directed by Abbey Wright, with design by Helen Goddard, and a cast including Rory Keenan.

Rory Keenan as [John’s] mixed-up apprentice subtly conveys the seasoned toper’s power to contaminate others.

An assured production by Abbey Wright

Rory Keenan as the undertaker’s young assistant, Mark, succeeds in locating McPherson’s verbal pulse.  Keenan’s animated stage presence is magnetic; not only does he shade the text with liquid ease, he also has “a great listening quality”.

Director Abbey Wright does well to mine all of the emotion and wit in McPherson’s script.  She gets three excellent performances from Gary Lydon as the self-pitying lead, Rory Keenan as the taciturn, lumbering assistant, and Pauline Hutton as John’s nervous jabbering daughter.

For Dubliners in the audience, the authenticity of the production is satisfyingly maintained in Helen Goddard’s set.
The Stage

It will play at Trafalgar Studios (Studio 2) until 31st December and tickets can be bought here.
