Critics make noise for Donmar's THE SILENCE OF THE SEA

The Donmar Warehouse’s final annual residency at the Trafalgar Studios concludes with Vercors’ THE SILENCE OF THE SEA, in a new version by Donmar Associate Artist, Anthony Weigh.  The production also features set design by Ben Stones, lighting design by David Plater, and sound design by Gregory Clarke.

In a time of conflict, a soldier is billeted to the home of an old man and his niece. Powerless to turn him away, they resist him with silence - a silence that becomes their most potent weapon.

What the reviews have said:-
spare, brooding, finely shaded production
Independent ****

Anthony Weigh’s stealthy and beautifully wrought adaptation of a samizdat classic of the French Resistance …the drama is a small-scale event with a big political reach, and the Donmar presentation – design by Ben Stones of a stuccoed aquamarine wall and a wooden ceiling, lighting by David Plater, sound by Gregory Clarke – is as good as anything in town.
Whatsonstage ****
