PURPLE HEART opens at the Gate Theatre

Christopher Haydon’s British Premiere of Bruce Norris’ play, PURPLE HEART, has now opened at the Gate Theatre (where Chris is Artistic Director).

October 1972. In a city, somewhere in the American Midwest, Carla is trying to rebuild her life. Her husband is gone - killed in Vietnam. Now, under the watchful eye of her mother-in-law, she must raise her young son whilst struggling to avoid the morbid sympathy of her local community. But everything changes when an unexpected and mysterious soldier arrives on her doorstep.

The critics say:-
Watching Christopher Haydon's wonderfully well-acted English premiere, the work's temporal provenance  – composed between the atrocities of 9/ll and the invasion of Iraq – is powerfully apparent …Great stuff.
Independent ****

The production runs until 6th April and tickets can be bought here.
