BAFTA TV Nominations Announced

The BAFTA Television Awards 2013 shortlist has been revealed.

Several shows lead the field with four nominations including The Girl for which Sienna Miller’s performance as Tippi Hedren bags her a nod in the Leading Actress category.

Accused and Twenty Twelve also have four nominations apiece and Olivia Colman is up for acting awards for both shows. In the Supporting Actress category she receives a nomination for her portrayal of Sue in Accused (Mo’s Story) and another in the Female Performance in a Comedy Programme category for the role of Sally in Twenty Twelve - a role for which she was nominated this time last year too.

Also receiving two acting nominations is Peter Capaldi who is once again up for Male Performance in a Comedy Programme for his portrayal of Malcolm Tucker in The Thick of It – an award he won for the same role in 2010 and was nominated for in 2006 and 2008 – as well as a nomination in the Supporting Actor category for the role of Randall Brown in The Hour.

In the Mini Series category Tom Stoppard’s adaptation of Ford Maddox Ford’s Parade’s End, directed by Susanna White goes head to head with Mrs. Biggs, Jeff Pope’s drama telling the true story of the wife of the Great Train Robber, Ronnie Biggs. Drama nominations also go to Richard II (Hollow Crown) for Single Drama, directed by Rupert Goold and who also co-adapted with Ben Power, and Silk for Drama Series, created and written by Peter Moffat.

In comedy, Episodes directed by Jim Field Smith and Hunderby co-written by Barunka O'Shaughnessy both appear on the list for Situation Comedy. In the Entertainment Programme category, A League of Their Own, fronted by James Corden gets a nod. And in factual programming The Secret History of Our Streets, produced and directed by Paul Berczeller is in the running for the Specialist Factual award.

Congratulations to all those nominated and all those who worked on nominated programmes.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Sunday 12th May.
