SPRING AWAKENING OPENS AT THE WEST YORKSHIRE PLAYHOUSE

Anya Reiss’ adaptation of SPRING AWAKENING has opened at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, with dates following at the Nuffield, Cambridge Arts Theatre, Richmond Theatre, Liverpool Playhouse, Northern Stage and Derby Theatre. A Headlong, West Yorkshire Playhouse and Nuffield co-production, the adaptation is being directed by Ben Kidd, with sound design by George Dennis.

Unnerving, entertaining, funny and dark, Frank Wedekind’s definitive play about youth caused riots when it exploded onto the stage in 1906 and has lost none of its provocative power.

Brought bang up to date by award-winning young playwright Anya Reiss and director Ben Kidd, this new version examines the exuberance, intensity and confusion of teenage life today. SPRING AWAKENING asks important and pressing questions about how young people are shaped for their future by a generation that doesn’t understand them.

SPRING AWAKENING is playing at the West Yorkshire Playhouse until 22nd March. Further information about the tour venues and buying tickets can be found here.
