BIRDLAND at The Royal Court

Simon Stephens’ new play BIRDLAND has opened at The Royal Court.  This piercing new play explores empathy, money and fame.

Andrew Scott plays rock star Paul – he is at the height of his fame and in the last few weeks of a massive international tour.  Whatever he wants he can have, but as the inevitability of the end of the road looms closer, and a return home becomes a reality, for Paul, the music is starting to jar.

The production is directed by Carrie Cracknell, and also stars Charlotte Randle.

“The writing takes you inside the scrambled brain of Birdland’s damaged hero, beautifully played by Andrew Scott, and Carrie Cracknell's production is ceaselessly inventive.”
Michael Billington, The Guardian.

“Andrew Scott's extraordinary performance lights up Simon Stephens’s new play about a rock god losing his mind.”
Henry Hitchings, The Evening Standard

The show plays at Royal Court Downstairs until May 31st.
