Fringe First Awards for Chris Goode and Chris Thorpe

The latest Fringe First Awards for innovation and outstanding new writing at this year’s Edinburgh Festival have been announced by the Scotsman:-

MEN IN THE CITIES , written and performed by Chris Goode (winner of a First last year for his play, MONKEY BARS).

Traverse Theatre (Traverse 2) on 22, 23 August (various times)

Framed by two violent deaths – the apparently inexplicable suicide of a young gay man, and the murder of drummer Lee Rigby outside the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich in May 2013 – Men in the Cities is a compelling piece about harm and complicity, and about the forces that shape our relationships. Through fractured snapshots of seemingly disconnected lives, Men in the Cities presents a challenging but radically humane portrait of how we live now.

CONFIRMATION, co-written by previous First winners Chris Thorpe and Rachel Chavkin, in which Chris also performs.

Northern Stage at King’s Hall at 4:35pm (August 9; 11-16; 18-23).

If you pinned me against a wall, I’d admit to being a liberal. And pinning me against a wall is exactly what I’d expect from someone like you. Confirmation is about gulfs we can’t talk across and the way we choose to see only the evidence that proves we’re right. Working with research into the phenomenon of confirmation bias, Confirmation is an attempt to have an honourable dialogue with political extremism.
