Lauren Bacall - 1924-2014

Lauren Bacall, whose Hollywood career spanned seven decades, has died at home in New York at the age of 89.

She made her screen debut at the age of 19 in TO HAVE AND HAVE NOT opposite Humphrey Bogart who she subsequently married. Her on screen partnership with Bogart continued with films such as THE BIG SLEEP, KEY LARGO and DARK PASSAGE. 

Bacall was not only known for her screen work but she also had an established stage career winning Tony Awards for Best Leading Actress in a Musical in 1970 for APPLAUSE and in 1981 for WOMAN OF THE YEAR.

She returned to the screen earning an Academy Award nomination in 1996 for her role opposite Barbra Streisand in THE MIRROR HAS TWO FACES, a role which also won her a Golden Globe.

Bacall was later honoured by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences with an Honorary Oscar in 2010.

"You don't have to act with me, Steve. You don't have to say anything and you don't have to do anything. Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and... blow."
