PUNK ROCK opens at Lyric Theatre, Belfast

As thousands of teenagers open their A-Level results, PUNK ROCK, Simon Stephens' intense and powerful play about sixth form life, gets its Irish premiere tonight at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast.

It’s exam time and a clique of sixth formers hang out in their school library, preparing for their mock A Levels.

The dysfunctional group journey through pre-exam stress discussing their first world problems.  There’s a fear of failure and being judged by intelligence alone, parental pressure to get straight As and expectations of getting into university. These pressures combined with sleep deprivation, sexual frustration and troubling thoughts lead to a shocking climax.

Directed by Selina Cartmell, the cast features Jonah Hauer-King as Nicholas and Aisha Fabienne Ross as Cissy.

The production runs to 6th September and tickets are available here.
