BAFTA Cymru Award Nominations 2015

The list of nominees for this year’s Welsh BAFTA Awards has been announced.

Ashley Way is up for Best Director: Fiction for Welsh miner’s strike drama Y Streic a Fi (The Strike and Me), which is also nominated in the Best Television Drama and Best Writer categories.

Dylan Thomas biopic Set Fire to the Stars, directed and co-written by Andy Goddard, has received seven nominations, including Best Writer, Best Feature, and Best Photography and Lighting. The film is edited by Mike Jones.

A Poet in New York, also centred on Dylan Thomas, is up for both Best Feature and Best Special and Visual Effects. It was produced by Ruth Caleb, shot by Martin Fuhrer BSC, and stars Tom Hollander and Essie Davis.

Completing the Thomas trilogy, Under Milk Wood, which features both Charlotte Church and Tom Rhys Harries, is nominated in three categories including Best Television Drama. Also nominated for Best Television Drama is Hinterland, shot by Simon Tindall.

Sian Jenkins and Trisha Biggar are both nominated for Best Costume Designer, for Cara Fi (Spilt Milk) and Da Vinci’s Demons respectively. Ray Holman designed costumes for Wizards vs Aliens, which is nominated for Best Children’s programme, and was directed by Lee Haven Jones.

3-part miniseries Tir, also directed by  Lee Haven Jones, is nominated for Best Writer, and Best Photography and Lighting.

Finally, Peter Capaldi is up for Best Actor for his role in Doctor Who.

The winners will be announced in a ceremony on 27th September.
