THE ROLLING STONE opens to rave reviews!

Last night saw the London premiere of The Rolling Stone, written by the brilliant Chris Urch, which opened at the Orange Tree Theatre in Richmond.

Nominated for Best New Play at the Manchester Theatre Awards and Winner of a Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting in 2013, The Rolling Stone first premiered at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester in April 2015 to critical acclaim:

Dembe and Sam have been seeing each other for a while. They should be wondering where this is going and when to introduce each other to their families. But they’re gay and this is Uganda. The consequences of their relationship being discovered will be explosive. Especially for Dembe, whose brother goes into the pulpit each week to denounce the evils of one man loving another.

“A play of insight, wit and a truly tragic dilemma.” **** The Independent

“A rich premise explored with visible passion … Urch’s compelling play could hardly be more timely” **** The Guardian

“Urch’s second play… is a proper stunner” ***** Time Out

“Scorching portrayal of love and persecution” **** Evening Standard

“…an unflinching drama… Chris Urch’s Bruntwood Prize-winning play crashes into Richmond’s Orange Tree Theatre with the force of a very small, but very real meteor.” **** The Stage

“… with only two plays behind him Chris Urch is already becoming one of British theatre’s major talents.” **** What’s On Stage

“The Rolling Stone is a powerful and deeply moving portrayal of being gay in Uganda” ***** The Londonist

“Chris Urch’s powerful drama… has a scorching, sweat-drenched intensity.” **** The Times

Don’t miss a chance to see this extraordinary play, which runs until 20th February. Further information and tickets available here.
