Representation

Finding new clients is an important part of what we do. However, because we receive over 200 submissions per week across all areas, we only respond to those that are of interest, and we cannot respond to (or return) any unsolicited script or book submissions sent by post. Please follow the guidelines for the relevant department below.

Actors and Presenters
We happily accept submissions BY POST ONLY – NO EMAILS. Please mark the envelope ‘Submissions’ and enclose your CV with a headshot. Only those also enclosing a SAE can expect a reply, usually within 4-6 weeks. We DO NOT accept showreels and cannot accept responsibility for the loss of any items. Please ensure any SAE is large enough for the return of your photos.

Books

As an agency, we value and welcome approaches from prospective authors. Instead of writing generally to the Book Department, however, we request that you take a look at our literary agents’ pages on our website, and make a specific and informed approach to one agent only.

Each agent may have specific requests in terms of how they wish to receive material, and those instructions will be on their individual pages.  Generally, we ask you to email a full outline for non-fiction projects, or a synopsis of your novel and the first three chapters, together with covering note telling us about yourself and your writing career to date.

Please note that our email account booksassistant@unitedagents.co.uk is no longer handling submissions.

Children’s and Young Adults' Books
We are happy to review material and will endeavor to respond within 8-10 weeks. In all cases we prefer correspondence by e-mail to jmarsh@unitedagents.co.uk; if you send material by post we will recycle it if it not right for us and contact you by e-mail (please make sure you enclose your e-mail address). Please do not include an SAE as work will not be returned.

  • Picture Books: Please e-mail at least three stories – not in a series – as separate Word documents and a covering e-mail.
  • Illustrators: Please e-mail a selection of JPEGs with a covering e-mail. If you also write stories, please send those along too.
  • Fiction: Please e-mail the first three chapters and a synopsis as Word docs with a covering e-mail.

Film and Television Writers
We do not accept unsolicited material. Any unsolicited pitches, outlines and screenplays will be deleted without being read. If you are referred to one of the agents here by a producer, development executive or course tutor, you should email the agent directly, attaching a CV and giving details of who has referred you.

Playwrights
Please email one example of your work, accompanied by a covering letter and CV, to looking@unitedagents.co.uk. The work should be a play or an original radio play. We are unable to consider synopses or incomplete scripts.

Directors

Please send a CV and covering letter to looking@unitedagents.co.uk. We will request copies of your work should your application be of interest.
