Hattie Naylor’s theatre credits include; Dido’s Bar with Dash Arts and composer Marouf Majidi, national tour (2022), The Marxist in Heaven, National Theatre Live for NT Connections (2020/21), The Night Watch (Sarah Waters/Manchester Royal Exchange) 2016, Going Dark with Sound&Fury (Fuel/Young Vic) 2014, her controversial Bluebeard (Lee Lyford/Gallivant) 2013, and Ivan and the Dogs (Soho Theatre/ATC) which was nominated in the Olivier Awards for Outstanding Achievement in Theatre, and won the Tinniswood Award in 2010, a new production was staged at the Young Vic in 2019. The text was used in the film adaptation of Ivan and the Dogs, renamed: Lek and the Dogs, with the film director Andrew Kötting. The film premiered at the London Film Festival 2017 before general release and was sighted as amongst Mark Kermode’s top films of the year. 

Other productions include her gothic thriller Dead Weather (directed by Nicolas Jackson) won Best Supporting Actress, Best Actress, and Best Drama at the BBC Audio Drama Awards 2022, The Night Before Christmas Roman Stefanski/The Polka/Royal and Derngate, (2021/2022), work for the Circus Company Extraordinary Bodies What am I worth, include national tour and National Theatre Riverstage 2018, Human (2021)and  Waldo’s Circus of Magic and Terror (2023) Bristol Od Vic/Plymouth Theatre Royal. The Three Musketeers for the Dukes Lancaster and directed by Sarah Pushon was nominated for Best Show for Children and Young People at the National Theatre Awards in 2018.

Work as a librettist includes Picard in Space with Will Gregory (Goldfrapp) for the Electronica Festival at the Southbank 2012 and Radio 3. She has written extensively for BBC Radio 4 notably: The Diaries of Samuel Pepys nominated Best Radio Drama 2012 and The Aeneid nominated Best Radio Adaptation with original music by Will Gregory – (Radio 3) BBC Audio Awards 2013, and In Diamond Square, set in Barcelona in the 1930’s, adapted from Mercè Rodoreda, with Afonica Productions, directed by Nicolas Jackson, and with Maxine Peake (2022).

Hattie studied dance at Nottingham Trent University before going on to study Fine Art at the Slade School of Art.  She is neurodivergent and this informs her art and writing, and also her collaborations particularly with the film maker Andrew Kötting.

Work in development for the screen includes Hildegard for Shelly Bancroft, and for theatre and Prinzhorn, Art that Changed the World with Josephine Burton and Dash Arts.

She is a recipient of New Play Commission Scheme from the Writers’ Guild for Prinzhorn, Art that Changed the World.
