Born and bred in Lancashire Lisa read Drama and Theatre at Royal Holloway, University of London before studying directing at LAMDA.

Lisa most recently directed I KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT EVE, which played in the Hampstead Theatre's Downstairs Space.

Last year she directed HERE by Michael Frayn starring Alison Steadman, Zawe Ashton and Alex Beckett at the Rose Theatre in Kingston.

in 2008 Lisa set up Buckle for Dust Theatre Company with producer Claire Birch and writers Ali Taylor and Lou Ramsden. With a commitment to creating opportunities for theatre's most distinctive voices.  Buckle For Dust's inaugural production was COTTON WOOL at Theatre503 which garnered  the Meyer Whitworth Award for its writer Ali Taylor. The Times described it as Grittily poetic and thrillingly imaginative... Poignantly funny....  Bewitching and Time Out highlighted that All aspects of Lisa Spirling's production are praiseworthy with the Daily Telegraph mentioning its Startling profundity and pathos.... Beautifully directed.... Cotton Wool deserves to be seen on a bigger stage very soon.  Lisa then directed Buckle For Dust's production in association with ETT of Lou Ramsden's  HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS at Soho Theatre. Time Out called it A Chilling Parable of self-delusion... David Lynch meet the Brother Grimm, with ghastly echoes of Josef Fritzel and the London Festival Fringe described it as the best play I've seen this year, gripping, tense, thought-provoking and dripping with black humour at every turn.

Lisa is currently an affiliate artist at the new writing Theatre503 and was formerly the Programming Director there. She is the recipient of a Creative Industries Award from The Hospital Club, London and her work with Idiots of Ants has led to a nomination from the Edinburgh Comedy Awards. Lisa was also the Education Project Manager for the National Theatre's ground breaking Art of Regeneration program.
