UK Premiere of STARRED UP at LFF

Following rave reviews at both Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals, STARRED UP will have its UK premiere at the 57th BFI London Film Festival next month. Directed by David Mackenzie, the film is nominated in the Official Competition for Best Film and Best Newcomer for writer, Jonathan Asser.

Starring Jack O’Connell and Rupert Friend STARRED UP follows the story of a young offender whose extreme violent behavior sees him transferred to an adult prison at the age of just 19.

Screenings will take place at the Odeon West End  on 10th and 11th October followed by another at Hackney Picturehouse on 12th October.

‘Starred Up is the finest British-made prison drama for a long time’ - David Sexton, The Evening Standard

The extreme violence of the situation may deter some audiences but this is the most powerful and assured film of David Mackenzie’s career. [...] a first screenplay by prison system therapist Jonathan Asser, Starred Up feels totally authentic. The walls seem steeped in the claustrophobia and vulnerability of prison life.' - Allan Hunter, Screendaily

‘Mackenzie isn’t attempting to craft a larger-than-life antihero here, but delving into the sociology of this hellish subculture [...] Asser brings more than just realism, however, crafting the central father-son relationship on the foundation of classical Greek tragedy.’ – Peter Debruges, Variety
