| Tom Morris is Associate Director at the National Theatre where he works on the development of unusual theatre. Recent projects have included CORAM BOY (as producer), A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH (as writer) and WAR HORSE (as producer and co-director). Prior to taking up this post in February 2004, Tom Morris was Artistic Director of BAC (Battersea Arts Centre) where he revolutionised the programme, oversaw a radical management restructure and led the organisation from the verge of bankruptcy to financial stability. Under Tom's direction, BAC pioneered adventurous seasonal programming, invented the "scratch programme" and established itself as a national centre for the development of new theatre. This process contributed to the development of Complicite's MNEMONIC, The Shout's TALL STORIES, JERRY SPRINGER: THE OPERA and to work of Improbable Theatre, Frantic Assembly, Told by an Idiot, Ridiculusmus, Kazuko Hohki, The Table Show, Spymonkey, Kneehigh, Cartoon de Savlo and many other artists and companies. Journalism and Broadcasting From 1988 to 1994, Tom was a critic and feature-writer for The Times Literary Supplement, The Independent, The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, The Guardian, The Observer, Kaleidoscope, Night Waves, The Late Show and Time Out. He is still an occasional writer and broadcaster for The Observer and BBC Radio 4. Academia, Education & Miscellaneous In the 1980's, Tom studied, researched and taught Renaissance Drama and Poetry at Cambridge University, played trombone in a band called Stax Cadillacs and worked in an asylum in Macao. He was a foundation scholar in English Literature at Pembroke College, Cambridge (1983-6). Other Tom sits on the Boards of Complicite and Punchdrunk and is Chair of the JMK Trust, funding the prestigious JMK Award for young theatre directors.
