Bryony White is an Assistant Professor in Performance Studies at the University of Warwick. Her academic research focuses on gender and sexuality in contemporary performance and visual art. In 2019, she was shortlisted for the Fitzcarraldo Editions Essay Prize. From 2020–21, she wrote ‘Come as Softly’, a column on sex and desire for Elephant magazine, and from 2017–2020, she co-edited the TinyLetter, close. Her writing has been featured in Hazlitt, ArtReview, the Times Literary Supplement, frieze, LA Review of Books, Art Monthly and The White Review. She currently runs ‘Up Close: A Reading Group on Sex and Desire’ as part of the ICA’s curatorial and learning programme. She is currently working on her first non-fiction book, Dirty Queers, which explores the social and political history of filth and dirt in queer art and culture.
