Charlie is a writer/director hailing from the West Midlands. He was one of five filmmakers selected for Monkeypaw Productions NO DRAMA initiative, in partnership with the Toronto International Film Festival and the Universal Filmmakers Project. Charlie has just shot his proof-of-concept short film through the scheme, which will premiere at TIFF later this year, with the goal of developing it into a full-length project with Monkeypaw and Universal Filmed Entertainment Group (UFEG). Charlie was also selected as one of the BFI Network at LFF development cohort in 2024.
Establishing himself globally across both commercials and narrative work, Charlie looks to push the boundaries of cinematic techniques whilst blending humour and high-octane moments – giving an honest punch to all that he creates. He always strives to represent unheard voices on screen, utilising genre as a vehicle to tell important stories through a new lens. Charlie also aims to improve accessibility in film, and his deaf-led BBC short film SILENT WORLD was subsequently picked up as a TV series after winning The National Lottery Arts Project of the Year, alongside BAFTA, Academy Award and BIFA qualifying festival nominations.
Other TV work includes second unit directing on Sky Atlantic’s THIS ENGLAND, starring Kenneth Branagh. Charlie has been mentored by Julian Holmes (THE BOYS, DAREDEVIL, CARNIVAL ROW) and been nominated for Cannes Lions and 1.4 awards.
