Ellie Wood

Ellie Wood is a multiple BAFTA-nominated film and TV producer, specialising in high quality screen adaptations. She has worked with the most celebrated talent in the industry – including Andrew Davies, Tom Stoppard, Alan Hollinghurst, Moira Buffini, Simon Stone, Tony Marchant, Chris Addison, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Nina Raine, John Preston, Ralph Fiennes, Carey Mulligan, Lily James, Matthew Macfadyen, and Keeley Hawes.

Having trained at the Royal Academy of Dancing, Ellie Wood began her career in casting and at a theatrical agency before joining the BBC. She spent eight years in-house, working as a script editor on a number of award-winning dramas including Andrew Davies’ adaptations of Bleak House, The Line of Beauty and He Knew He Was Right.

She moved to Clerkenwell Films, progressing from head of development to executive producer, working on productions such as The Diary of a Nobody for the BBC. She then joined Tiger Aspect Productions as an executive producer, where her projects included a BBC adaptation of Decline and Fall.

For two years she worked as a consultant for Miramax and has also consulted for Sony Pictures Entertainment and Catalyst Global Media.

She set up Clearwood Films to develop her own film and TV slate and, in March 2019, signed a first look development deal with Banijay Rights, the leading distribution arm of Banijay Group.

In 2019, she produced The Dig, a feature film adaptation for Netflix of John Preston’s novel, starring Carey Mulligan, Ralph Fiennes, Lily James and Johnny Flynn. It was released in January 2021 and nominated for five BAFTAs, including Outstanding British Film and Adapted Screenplay.

In 2022, she has produced Stonehouse, an ITV/BritBox International drama written by John Preston about the disgraced politician John Stonehouse, starring Matthew Macfadyen and Keeley Hawes, and directed by Jon S. Baird.

She will also executive produce But When We Dance, a greenlit BBC1 drama written by Paul Mayhew-Archer about two people who share a sense of humour, a love of dance and Parkinson’s. 

In autumn 2022, Hot Milk will go into production, a Film4 adaptation of Deborah Levy’s novel, written and directed by Rebecca Lenkiewicz and starring Jessie Buckley and Fiona Shaw.
