Gawn's first work for television was the highly acclaimed YOU DON'T HAVE TO WALK TO FLY, a single film for LWT (1984) starring Bob Hoskins and Janet Key.

His other single plays have included :

OUT OF THE COOP (YTV), JACK SOLOMON'S CHILDREN (YTV), the adaptation of his own stage play FOUR TO ONE (BBC 1986) and notably CLOWNS starring Harry Andrews in his last role on television (BBC Play on One Series, produced by Bill Bryden, April 1989).

His screenplays have included TWO MAN BAND and THE LIFE OF FRED KARNO.

Gawn wrote for the first series of TRAINER and also wrote three episodes of TRAINER II.  He also wrote for the BBC series MOON AND SON.

Among his other screen credits,  he was one of the two principal writers on all three series of the highly successful BBC series BIG DEAL (1984/6) starring Ray Brooks.

His first commissioned radio play was GLASS HOUSES, one of a quartet of plays featured in VACANT POSSESSION, broadcast in 1989 - a dramatic study of the interrelationships between four individuals.

Gawn's early writing was for the stage.  His play FOUR TO ONE was performed at the Young Vic and Cottesloe Theatres in 1978; VAMP TILL READY was given a workshop production in the Cottesloe, The Royal National Theatre and L.I.P.S (Lies in Plastic Smiles) received several Platform performances.  These were followed by JUBILEE, starring Peggy Mount, at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre (Guildford) in 1980.

During 1986 Gawn edited OLIVIER ON ACTING on which he worked closely with Sir Laurence.  The book was published by Weidenfeld and Nicholson.

Gawn is also associated with A.G.H.E Productions which developed and produced the highly successful series THE ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS GUIDE TO COOKERY, starring Michael Elphick and Don Henderson for TSW. 

Gawn also wrote an episode of the penultimate series of LOVEJOY.  

 

 

Gawn is also an actor.
