Gerry is an illustrator and printmaker with a special interest in natural history. He was born and raised in Glasgow where he studied Illustration at Glasgow School of Art, and then Natural History Illustration at the Royal College of Art. After graduating, he illustrated a book by Michael Morpurgo and worked on other book projects, which included a cover for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Clients include Pentagram, Puffin Books, MET Studio Design, Egmont, David Fickling Books, Schwartz & Wade, Hodder Children's Books and Nosy Crow.
One of Gerry's recent projects, a picture book called ‘A Bear’s Year’, written by American author Kathy Duval, follows a bear family through the four seasons and the first year in the life of a mother bear's cubs. 'I went drawing on the Swiss Alps to research the book. There I could get a real sense of the wild bears travelling up and down the pine, larch and thick snow covered mountains. An adult bear had been spotted in the region shortly before we went, this sighting gave an edge to the drawing experience, both exciting and unnerving!'
