Born and bred in South Africa, Kelsey wrote, directed and produced her first feature-length play, two-hander meta-comedy, Character Door, for the South African National Arts Festival Fringe 2015. Shortly afterward, she moved to the UK after being awarded the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship to study an MA in Film and Television Production at the University of Bristol. Since graduating, she has worked in various Film/TV roles, with the last four years being in scripted development.
She began writing again, this time for screen, in 2021 and has since been shortlisted for several major competitions. Her first screenplay, coming-of-age boxing dramedy, BOX, was shortlisted for the BBC Pilot TV Programme 2021 (formerly the BBC TV Drama Writers Programme). Her TV comedy pilot, AUTOMATRONS, was one of 12 scripts shortlisted for the BAFTA Rocliffe New Writing competition (TV Comedy, 2024), and feature COCHLEAR and short I REALLY NEED THIS JOB progressed to the second stage of the BBC Open Call 2023 (top 10%).
Kelsey writes in a range of genres and formats, and is currently developing two features (a folk-horror and a dark drama) as well as several series pilots. She loves literary fiction, boxing, stand-up comedy, and Greek tragedy.
