Lavinia is a British-Romanian actress and classical pianist turned writer-director.  She directed Acceptable Damage, which won Best Action Film at the 2021 National Film Awards against stalwart favourites 1917 and The Aeronauts. Lavinia both wrote and directed her first feature Memento Amare which centers around the Eastern European immigrant experience in the UK, shooting it in only 3 days! Memento Amare was a semifinalist at the Los Angeles Cinefest and selected for the 2017 Best Film Awards. She is currently working on her third feature, Down Below, a classical music drama. Lavinia holds a BA in classical music from the Conservatoire of Arts Lassy (Romania), a second BA in drama and film from the National University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest, Romania and a Masters in Performance Art  from Goldsmiths University of London. 

 

Her filmmaking is informed by European and Russian cinema including French wave, Italian neorealism and Anti-Soviet cinema. She is a lecturer at London Film Academy for their BA Directing programme.
