Mathilda is a British director working across opera, theatre and film.  As part of the Jette Parker Artists Programme at The Royal Opera for the 2022/23 season, Mathilda directed Handel’s Arminio for the Linbury Theatre (ROH).

Other directing credits include: La Boheme  (Nevill Holt Opera), Arianna a Naxos (The Royal Opera), Panic (Montpellier Opera) and the 20th Anniversary staged summer celebration scenes on the mainstage of the Royal Opera House, conducted by Antonio Pappano. 

Mathilda has worked as an assistant director with Richard Jones on Rhinegold and Valkyrie at English National Opera; Rumpelstiltskin, a feature film produced by The Ballet Boyz; and AlcinaClemenza di Tito and Frankenstein!! for ROH. She was also assistant director to Oliver Mears at ROH on Jephtha and Rigoletto, and to Jamie Manton on La Traviata at Nevill Holt Opera and The Cunning Little Vixen at ENO. Mathilda assisted John Fulljames on Nixon in China at Scottish Opera, and Tim Carroll at the Verbier Festival on Rigoletto and Die Zauberflote.

During the 2020/21 season Mathilda took part in a new work residency with Montpellier Opera and developed two new chamber works with composers. 

She studied at the University of Manchester where she graduated with a first class Music degree, and was awarded the Hargreaves composition prize as well as the prize for academic achievement. She was formerly assistant producer for The Linbury Theatre, and previously worked on the production team at Opera Holland Park.
