CASUALTY - Barbara Machin Special
The first of the CASUALTY 'Specials' to celebrate the show's 30th birthday begins on Saturday with Barbara Machin's The Road Not Taken - an innovative 'Sliding Doors' approach to one night shift in the Holby A&E.
We see three different medical outcomes depending on the decision made . And life decisions also for Zoe played by Sunetra Sarka who gives the performance of her life . The episode is directed by Oscar nominated Ian Barnes.
Barbara hasn't written for the show since its 21st first birthday when she won the show its very first BAFTA, but she has always had a special relationship with the show .
After the BAFTA she was appointed consultant for a year to help the show refresh itself. The Specials carry no serial content and have the freedom with storytelling to give the audience a very different and exciting narrative ride. The Road Not Taken asks the big questions. The 'what ifs' which haunt medics and run through all our lives as the big imponderables.
