Don't miss Blanche McIntyre's ANTONY & CLEOPATRA at The Globe

For the first time in ten years, ANTONY & CLEOPATRA, Shakespeare’s colossal story of love, duty, and power unfolds in the Globe Theatre in an epic bilingual production using Spoken English and British Sign Language.

Rome is an empire ruled by men. Egypt is a kingdom governed by a woman.

Despite their different cultures, Roman general Antony falls for Egyptian queen Cleopatra. Their passion blazes across two continents, upsets the world order and puts thousands of lives at risk.

This brilliant and innovative production was directed by Blanche McIntyre, and stars Nadia Nadarajah and John Hollingworth in the titular roles. It has received some wonderful reviews. Dave Fargnoli praised the ‘cleverly conceived and smartly executed production’, giving it 4* in The Stage, while Lucinda Everett called it ‘fascinating’ and declared it ‘a cultural coming together all of its own’ in her 4* review for WhatsOnStage.

In his review for the Evening Standard, Nick Curtis called the production ‘thrillingly radical, and went on to say that ‘To have brought something so bold and complex to the stage at all is a technical triumph for director Blanche McIntyre’. While Andrzej Lukowski praised McIntyre’s irreverent approach, calling it ‘a spirited and breezy take on Shakespeare’s oft-dense tragedy’ resulting in a ‘fun, a typically rambunctious Globe treatment of a classic that’s often handled with kid gloves.’

ANTONY & CLEOPATRA is playing until 15th September and tickets are available here. Don’t miss it!
