The Folio Prize longlist is announced

Congratulations to Sebastian Barry, Jill Dawson, Helen Dunmore, Hermione Eyre, Samantha Harvey, Constantine Phipps, Graham Swift and Louisa Young, who have all been longlisted for the Folio Prize. These are the 80 works of fiction published in the UK in 2014 that, in the eyes of the 235 writers and critics who constitute the Folio Prize Academy, are the best of the year. 

Chair of Judges William Fiennes commented: "The list of nominations for this year's Folio Prize is both daunting and exhilarating. It's not just that the list has such range and richness. Reading the books, it's as if we're eavesdropping on a marvellous conversation about what a novel might be." The shortlist will be announced on 9th February 2015.
