MONKEY BARS swings back to the Unicorn

Chris Goode’s Fringe First-winning verbatim play, MONKEY BARS, returns for a second run at the Unicorn Theatre this week following its successful and acclaimed run at the Traverse at last year’s Edinburgh Festival.

Taking extracts of interviews Chris held with over 70 six to eleven year olds, their hopes, fears and observations on the world are spoken by an adult cast, creating a disorientating yet strangely enlightening effect.

The show features the set design work of Naomi Dawson and lighting designs by Colin Grenfell.

Monkey Bars grabs you by the heart and mind... It moves you. It makes you think. It makes you laugh and it makes you well up more than once. Most of all, it will make you wonder why we adults don't take children a lot more seriously.
Whatsonstage *****

A neatly crafted, absorbing and at times beautiful play
Evening Standard ****

Goode’s production, featuring his trademark atmospheric soundtrack, is beautifully pitched …It’s an eye-opening, refreshing pleasure... Warmly recommended.
Independent *****

Translated into adult situations, the words of children take on a new gravity, but also highlight the absurdities of the adult world …Fantastic.
Guardian ****

Highly entertaining... Hilarious and poignant by turns... Displays a powerful imagination that so many of us have lost as grown-ups.
Daily Telegraph ****

A sweet, funny, occasionally sad show that makes beautiful currency out of children’s general inability to speak anything other than their minds.
Time Out ****

The kids are definitely all right... A dazzling portrait of modern Britain from the perspective of the new generation.
