Netflix's Helicopter Heist: Single take episode by Cinematographer Juan Sarmiento G.
We're excited to share that our wonderful Director of Photography client Juan Sarmiento G. shot episode 6, "Showtime" of the new Swedish Netflix series HELICOPTER HEIST for director Daniel Espinosa, a regular collaborator. The series is based on the 2009 robbery at a G4S cash depot in the Stockholm suburb of Västberga, and can be watched on UK Netflix now! Episode 6 is of particular note as Espinosa was keen to find an innovative approach to reflecting a bank robbery on screen. He and Juan collaborated closely to execute a single take shot, tracking the thieves as the robbery takes place. This ingenious technical choice allows the audience to experience the intense and pressured process of executing heist in real time, and brings a fresh take to a well-handled genre. The series has attracted critical acclaim, The Review Geek in particular praised the cinematographic choices. If you would like to learn more about the preparation and deliberation that went into shooting the jaw dropping and seamless episode, you can watch Making The Helicopter Heist, also on Netflix, which gives a behind the scenes insight into how a one shot take extending across an episode is made possible.
Juan also lit Daniel’s latest feature MADAME LUNA, for which he won the Sven Nykvist Cinematography Award at the Gothenburg Film Festival.
