UA Clients nominated for Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Awards 2021

This week, the nominations for the CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals were announced, and several United Agents clients were on the lists.

Elen Caldecott was nominated for the Carnegie Medal for her historical middle-grade novel The Short Knife. It is set in the Dark Ages and follows two young siblings and their father as they flee from Saxon invaders.

The Somerset Tsunami by Emma Carroll was also nominated for the Carnegie. The Times have said that 'To read a new Emma Carroll book is to wallow in a warm bath as she expertly combines a thrilling story with local history and characters to root for.' and BookTrust have called her the 'Queen of historical fiction.

And finally, Kerry Drewery's The Last Paper Crane was also nominated for the Carnegie. This is a powerful novel set in contemporary Japan and also in 1945, Hiroshima, the day the nuclear bomb was so devastatingly dropped on the city.

Two titles were also nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal. Firstly, the Hairdo that Got Away (illustrated by Fiona Lumbers) and The Little Island (written by Smriti Prasadam-Halls).
