Unique bilingual production of Antony and Cleopatra at Shakespeare’s Globe
ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA opens next week at Shakespeare’s Globe, in the debut of its unique bilingual adaptation – British Sign Language and English. Directed by our wonderful client Blanche McIntyre, the play stars Nadia Nadarajah as Cleopatra, who featured in this Sunday’s Observer discussing her experience as an actor who “uses sign language and doesn’t speak”.
She is joined by a cast and crew that is near-evenly split between deaf and hearing, and a script that has been collaboratively translated to explore the nuances of written Shakespearian language within BSL. As the play itself explores profound misunderstandings and the clashing of cultures, a performance produced for both deaf and hearing audiences promises to unearth captivating new dimensions.
Blanche McIntyre’s ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA runs until the 15th of September at Shakespeare’s Globe.
