Nicola Kent

Nicola Kent made her first picture book with her mum when she was five years old, and never stopped drawing and making up stories. After her children were born, she decided to follow this dream and completed an MA in Children’s Book Illustration at Cambridge School of Art. Her debut, The Strongest Mum, was shortlisted for the World Illustration Awards, and, in 2019, she won the Independent Booksellers’ Best New Illustrator Award.

Before this, Nicola worked as a TV producer for ten years making programmes for the BBC and Channel 4, on subjects ranging from priceless Picassos to problem pets. She was born in north London where she still lives with her partner, children, cat and dog, and a very untidy desk.
