Natalie writes for television, theatre and radio. She strives to create work which centers around women and working-class communities, and her writing is often influenced by her lived experience with chronic illness and OCD. She has written three episode of WATERLOO ROAD across series eleven and twelve. Her original audio drama, THE PIPER, was produced by Somethin' Else for BBC Sounds and was nominated for the BBC Audio Drama Awards Tinniswood Award 2022.
Her play GERM FREE ADOLESCENT, inspired by her own experiences of neurodiversity and living with OCD was part of the closing season of the Bunker Theatre and nominated for Best Play for Young Audiences at the 2022 WGGBAs. Other plays for young audiences include CRAWLING IN THE DARK for the Almeida Theatre; TO MY YOUNGER SELF for Synergy Theatre Projects and WHEN THEY GO LOW for the National Theatre Connections season. Natalie’s interest in writing for young audiences comes from her background in education - she is an experienced teacher and facilitator with over fifteen years’ experience for companies including Lewisham College, Clean Break, Bush Theatre, Old Vic New Voices and the Almeida Theatre. Her theatre work has also been presented at the Royal Court, Soho, Hampstead and Finborough Theatres.
In 2007, her first play CAN’T STAND ME NOW was presented as part of the Royal Court Young Writer’s Festival, which led to her representing England at the World Interplay Young Writer’s Festival. In 2010 Natalie was one of nine writers on the Royal Court’s ‘Supergroup’. In 2017 she was named on the BBC Talent Hotlist, and she was one of the Edinburgh TV Festivals’ Ones to Watch in 2019.
Natalie’s radio plays include PROUD for BBC Radio 3’s the Wire, HIDDEN HARM and afternoon play THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD, both for BBC Radio 4.
She is a core writer on EASTENDERS, having written over 40 episodes, and regularly attends story conferences and contributes to storylines. Previously she wrote on seasons 2 and 3 of ACKLEY BRIDGE.
When not writing, Natalie is a passionate advocate for women’s health and those living with chronic pain conditions.
