TIFF 2018

The September slate has been announced for the 43rd annual TIFF, and we’re thrilled it includes a number of UK films and features a whole wealth of UA clients!

Outlaw King is set to open the festival, the "largest feature film to be made in Scotland so far" is directed by and co-written by David Mackenzie, stars James Cosmo MBE, with Director of Photography Barry Ackroyd BSC and Dialect Coach Barbara Berkery.

As part of the 2018 Galas are the following:

Red Joan will have its World Premiere at the festival, which stars Freddie Gaminara, and with Costume Design by Charlotte Walter, Hair and Make-up Design by Sallie Jaye and with a score composed by George Fenton, the film follows the legacy of Joan Stanley, the seemingly demure physicist who was also a long-serving British spy for the KGB.

Amongst the Special Presentations, are the following:

Colette, which will have its World Premiere, stars Keira Knightley in a leading role in this historical drama. The film also stars Shannon Tarbet and with Choreography by Alex Reynolds.

An American Woman which has its World Premiere, starring Sienna Miller, as a woman who raises her young grandson after her daughter goes missing.

Massimo Cantini Parrini lends his hand as Costume Designer to Matteo Garrone’s latest feature Dogman, which will have its Canadian Premiere.

22 July stars  Jon Øigarden, the upcoming drama based on the aftermath of the 2011 Norway attacks will have its North American Premiere.

Anupam Kher stars in a leading role in Anthony Maras’s debut feature Hotel Mumbai, about the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks and its survivors,

Teen Spirit, which follows a shy teenager pursuing her dream of pop stardom premieres, with Clara Rugaard, Elizabeth Berrington, Hair and Make-up design by Nadia Stacey, Costume Design by Mirren Gordon-Crozier and with Dialect Coach Sandra Frieze.

Xavier Dolan’s highly anticipated drama, The Death and Life of John F. Donovan will premiere, with Kit Harington in a leading role.

Also premiering at the festival is Tell It To The Bees, this is Henrietta & Jessica Ashworth’s debut feature, based on the novel by Fiona Shaw. The film stars Emun Elliot, Billy Boyd, with Costume Design by Ali Mitchell and Edited by Maya Maffioli.

The Hummingbird Project, which will also have its World Premiere at the festival, which stars Anna Maguire, follows two scheming cousins that try to build a thousand-mile-long, four-inch-wide tunnel from Kansas to New Jersey that will give them a 14-millisecond edge on transactions at the NSDAQ stock exchange.

Amma Asante returns to the festival this year, with her latest feature Where Hands Touch, which was produced by Charlie Hanson and with Director of Photography Remi Adefarasin BSC. It’s the World Premiere of this disquieting coming-of-age romance about a Black German teenager who falls in love with a member of the Hitler Youth. 

Gethin Anthony stars in Vita & Virgina, which will also have its World Premiere.

Jessie Buckley, stars in Wild Rose, the inspiring comedy drama about a would-be country singer dreaming to replace her dreary, workaday Glasgow life for the bright lights and big dreams of Nashville.

Premieres as part of Contemporary World Cinema, include:

Premiering is Rosie, which follows a mother who strives to shield her young family from their new reality when their landlord sells the property and renders them homeless, in Paddy Breathnach’s latest drama. The film stars Sarah Greene in the lead role, and was cast by Louise Kiely CDG. Sarah also stars in Black 47, which will also have its World Premiere.

Mike Leigh’s Peterloo will have its Canadian Premiere as part of Masters, Lizzy McInnerny, Gerard Kearns, Hamish Rush, Hayley Jayne-Standing and Moya Brady all-star, with production design by Suzie Davies.

Sam Gittins features in Ray & Liz, with Production Design by Beck Rainford, which will have its North American Premiere. Julian Morris stars in the Maryam Keshavarz drama Viper Club, which will also have it's World Premiere. 

Gwen, which features Sound Design by Anna Bertmark, will have its world premiere as a part of the Discovery Program.

Finally, as part of the Midnight Madness section, Nekrotronic has its World Premiere and stars Caroline Ford.  

The 43rd Toronto International Film Festival runs from September 6 to 16, 2018
