SCREEN DEAL FOR THE SUNKEN ROAD

Award-winning producer Alan Moloney (The Seige of Jadotville, Brooklyn) and director Brian Kirk (21 Bridges, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones) have optioned the rights to Ciaran McMenamin's forthcoming novel, The Sunken Road.  The Irish film-makers optioned the rights through Moloney's company Parallel Films, and are backed by Screen Ireland.  The Sunken Road is summarised as 'a story of love, loyalty and obsession set on the Western Front in the Great War and on the hills and rivers of Fermanagh four years later, as the War of Independence ignites along the border newly laid down by Partition – the centenary of which takes place this year.'  The novel has already been described by William Boyd as "powerfully authentic" and "tremendous", and by David Park as a "masterful depiction."  Speaking of their forthcoming collaboration, McMenamin said: "this team is a perfect fit. I can’t wait to get stuck into the adaptation with two of the leading lights of Irish film."

The Sunken Road will be published by Harvill Secker on 18th February 2021.
